How to grow milkweed from seed:
These Common Milkweed [Asclepias syriaca] seeds were gathered from Southbrook’s organic garden in 2017, and have been cold stratified in preparation for planting.
Fill peat pots ¾ with dampened soil, place 2-3 seeds per pot, and cover with ¼ in. or 0.6 cm of soil. Keep damp but not wet in a sunny spot, or under grow lights. Germination should take 2 – 3 weeks.
Plant in a sunny spot in the spring, when no more than 3 in. or 8 cm tall. Keep moist until established.
Milkweed can be direct seeded outside, with fall being the best time.
