Wine Lovers’ Notes:

In the Glass

Displayed in a clear bottle to emphasize its rich, amber colour. On the nose, look for an intense aroma of terroir characters of wood, roasted hazelnuts, pear marmalade. On the palate it bright and hazelnutty with just enough warmth and sight sweetness to give a long finish.

Suitable for Vegans & Vegetarians.

"Being in barrel since 2008 this vintage 2002 Chardonnay has been fortified and made in a Sherry / Madeira like method; with high acidity and oxidative character bringing out spiced-orange notes. It’s dry with a hint of sweet – this is a pretty cool “wine” and should be tried."
- Michael Pinkus, Michael Pinkus Wine Review

"This lightly fortified (15.9%) and well-aged Chardonnay shows orange-tawny colour. It was in barrel for a couple of years and intentionally oxidized. The nose is quite intense with walnut, burlap-like oxidation, apricot jam and honey notes. It's full bodied, medium sweet, warm and intense on the palate, with firm acidity and excellent flavour depth. Most like an amontillado sherry."
- David Lawrason, WineryToHome.com

"Colour: deep amber. Nose: earthy, dried fig nose. Taste: Madeira-like, fig and cirtus flavours; sweet with balancing acidity and a long, lingering finish. Drinkability: Now."
- Tony Aspler, WineryToHome.com

Winemaker’s Notes:

In the Vineyard

In the history of Southbrook, this wine bridges the original wine production in century old barns of stone construction with the new era of winemaking in Niagara. It was a decade in the making and "lived" in wooden barrels amongst stone foundations for over 6 years.

Varietal: 100% Chardonnay
Appellation: VQA Niagara Peninsula
Brix at harvest: 22-24°

In the Winery

Made from NOTL grown Chardonnay harvested in 2002, then fortified with neutral grain spirit (for purity of flavour) followed by extended natural aging without intervention nor protection from the elements. This wine was bottled in 2011, and then aged for 2 years in bottle before release. If it must be compared to a traditional style of wine, it vaguely resembles Madera. At just under 16% alcohol and with a full oxidative style, The Anniversary will offer years of evolution or pure hedonistic enjoyment.

Alcohol: 15.9%
Closure: Natural
Release Date: August 2013
