2nd Annual "Bottled Poetry" weekend will have something for everyone

Nov. 21 and 22, 2009 - A weekend of celebration of the release of the 2007 Poeticas will feature a series of informal talks, food pairings and a gallery of Poetica "art" at the winery in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Owners Marilyn and Bill Redelmeier, and winemaker Ann Sperling will all be on hand to meet guests and to sign purchases. Joining them is designer Laura Wills, fresh from a major design win for her Poetica packaging!

Poetica tastings and the talks in the Great Room are complimentary and wine and art lovers are invited!

Canada's premiere creative awards recognize Southbrook with two package design awards

Nov. 12, 2009 – Southbrook collected two of the five awards in the package design category from the Advertising and Design Club of Canada at Directions 2009. Southbrook's designer Laura Wills was on hand to collect the awards for both Poetica and Icewine package design.

 

International Architecture Award honours Southbrook Vineyards

Sept. 7, 2009 – Southbrook Vineyards’ hospitality pavilion joins only three other Canadian projects for this honour. In total, 97 projects from 30 countries were chosen by the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design, Metropolitan Arts Press Ltd., and The European Center for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies for what are termed "the world's most prestigious architecture awards." Diamond and Schmitt Architects Inc. were also honoured last year for the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts in Toronto.

“We are really pleased as this award proves that you can choose to build in an environmentally-sound way, and you can do it beautifully,” said co-owner and project manager Marilyn Redelmeier.

Southbrook Receives 2009 BusinessWeek/Architectural Record Award

Oct. 7, 2009 - Southbrook Vineyards is one of 12 submissions from an international roster of projects to be recognized by the BusinessWeek/Architectural Record program. Bill and Marilyn Redelmeier will travel to New York City to accept tonight a Citation for Excellence in the Good Design is Good Business Awards. “This award is particularly gratifying because not only were the architects recognized for great design, but our owners as well for their sound and insightful business decisions,” says Elena Galey-Pride, Director of Customer Experience.

Southbrook Vineyards toasts Earth Day® with Canada’s first biodynamic wine

April 22, 2009 – Southbrook Vineyards will toast Earth Day® with the release of its 2008 Cabernet Rosé, the first biodynamic wine produced in Canada. Twenty-eight restaurants across Ontario will celebrate with a simultaneous launch of the wine on April 22nd – Earth Day®. Chefs and sommeliers in these restaurants are featuring the Cabernet Rosé on their wine-by-the-glass list or with a specially created dish or food match. Southbrook Launches Poetica

November 19, 2008 – Southbrook hosted a release party for Poetica wines at The Richmond in Toronto. Guests in attendance included four of the distinguished poets from the collection, along with members of the arts and culture press.

November 7, 2008 – Southbrook Vineyards has become the first winery in Canada to have its vineyard certified by Demeter, the international body that oversees biodynamic agriculture.

Southbrook Demonstrates its Commitment to the Environment

September 7, 2008 – Southbrook announced today that it has been granted OC/PRO Canada organic certification for its vineyard located in Niagara-on-the-Lake. This means that the estate-grown grapes about to be harvested for the 2008 vintage will be designated “organic.” Southbrook Vineyards has an enduring commitment to producing great wines with a sense of place, and we believe that organic and biodynamic grape-growing are essential to that goal.

Winery is Big Winner in Steel Awards

May 15, 2008 – Owners Marilyn and Bill Redelmeier accepted the Award of Excellence for Architectural Design from the Canadian Institute for Steel Construction. To add to the trophy shelf, Southbrook also collected an Award of Merit for Green Buildings.

“Winegrower’s Hands” wins Applied Arts Award

May 2008 – An unusual portrait of winegrower Ann Sperling has won in the 17th Annual Photography & Illustration Awards presented by Applied Arts Magazine. Photographed during the harvest of 2007 by Steven Elphick, the black & white photo is a close-up of the winegrower’s work-worn hands, cradling a grape cluster. This evocative photo was art directed by Southbrook’s Elena Galey-Pride and their designer, Laura Wills, was Creative Director.
