94 points - “The top drop Chardonnay from Southbrook is Biodynamically grown, hand harvested, fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged eleven months in French oak (70% new). It has terrific complexity, tension and length! Expect lifted aromas of orange and lemon blossom, spiced pear, hazelnut and light toast. It's full bodied, viscous yet very energized on the palate with some alcohol and even a tannic burr. But the spice and citrus and nutty notes travel toward outstanding length, riding fine acidity. Best 2017 to well into the next decade. Tasted April 2016.”

94 points - "Always Ontario's outlier, eccentric and non-conformist chardonnay and I say this with complimentary, best of intention flattery. The 2013 vintage is simply chivalrous to chardonnay and in Poetica's corner, a perfect calm case of preux meets elegante. Here is a chardonnay of inherent oxidative wisdom, from cloud cover, cool, long breaths of Niagara air well into the elongated autumn and the address for what I refer to as "the age apparent one." The iconoclast Poetica ideal conforms because it is matched with equal breadth by richness of fruit and confirms the way Ann Sperling makes her signature wine. Tasted blind my first guess would put this at five years old because of the exuding warmth so 2010 might just be the order. A 2012 Bench chardonnay might have also been the answer. But with Poetica the promise is like Meursault with uptown fruit, honey, vanilla, caramel, a Niagara vapour and ethanol. Such a telling display that only Poetica can play. Drink 2016-2024. Tasted October 2016."

94 points - "The pedigree of this top-notch wine is indisputable, it is simply part of Niagara Chardonnay royalty. The sub-app is Four Mile Creek, fruit is farmed organically and biodynamically and French oak aging is in 70% new barrels (17% a year old, the rest neutral) for 11 months. Simply gorgeous, a terroir-driven nose of profound flinty minerality, ripe pear, apple skin, lemon and fine integrated oak nuances. Pure elegance on the palate, a lithe and impeccably balanced Chardonnay that brings a range of pear, apple and citrus together with hazelnut, lovely spice notes and minerals. There is freshness on the long finish and an overwhelming sense of grace with each sip. Well done."
- Rick Vansickle, WinesInNiagara.com

"Poetica is the pinnacle, made only in top vintages from a selection of barrels, and the 2013 - an excellent chardonnay vintage - sees lemon custard and apple crumble mingle comfortably with lime zest on a near endless finish."
- John Szabo, Wine and Spirits Magazine

In the Cellar

Hand harvested from our biodynamic and organic estate vineyard, these Chardonnay grapes were carefully selected and sorted.  Gentle pressing, cool settling of the juice and careful racking to 100% French oak barrels (70% new oak, 17% one year old and 13% neutral) for indigenous fermentation and malolactic conversion over 11 months. The barrels were then selected, blended and lightly bentonite fined prior to bottling
