Wine Lovers' Notes:

On the Bottle

featuring an excerpt from
Country Wide Soul
by Jim Cuddy
2006

Oh I lay down in
a meadow in the sky
and I held my breath as
I feel into your eyes

I love your hair, smells sweet
like pure Rocky Mountain air
like the big sky shining
on a Winnipeg night
dust in the air
and the Northern Light

All in your country wide soul
I love your country wide soul

In the Glass

Notes of ripe pear, apple and citrus zest greet the nose while the palate offers these same fruit components, but also crème brulee and toasted almond. Framed with a creamy texture and a long, graceful finish.

Suitable for vegans & vegetarians.

- "Ann Sperling's 2010 Poetica Chardonnay captures the warmth and generous fruit of the 2010 vintage, framed by sweet baking spice, toasted hazelnut and cashew, and marked caramel-oak influence. But this wine is really all about the layered texture, at once creamy yet taught, rich yet finely chiseled. It's a more forward, billowy expression to be sure, which sits stylistically somewhere between cool, coastal California and warm vintage Cote de Beaune, and should appeal widely. A modern Niagara classic. Best 2013 - 2017. Tasted May 2012".

***** -
"All the fruit for this wine comes from Southbrook’s estate vineyards, so it could be labelled by a sub-appellation. Winemaker Ann Sperling says she is aiming here at a more “classic profile” and to be “at the top of what we produce.” She’s succeeded. This is a fine and elegant Chardonnay that synthesizes rich, optimally ripe and pure fruit and a spine of brisk, clean and well-calibrated acid. It’s great to drink a wine that’s impressive to both the intellect and the senses".

Jim Cuddy

Jim Cuddy

Jim Cuddy (born in Toronto, Ontario) is a Canadian singer-songwriter primarily associated with the band Blue Rodeo. He has also recorded three solo albums with the Jim Cuddy Band.

In an interview with Toronto Life Magazine, Jim listed Poetry and Wine as two of the top 10 things he can't live without.

“Every time I start writing songs I read poetry. I like the beauty of Leonard Cohen, the ruralness of Alden Nowlan and the plain language of Al Purdy. I’ve read these books a hundred times each. It’s like reconnecting with old friends.”

“For our first 10 years as a band, we were awash in beer. Eventually I thought: I never want to have another frickin’ beer again. So the road manager and I decided to try wine. We bought a bottle and a wine magazine and sat in the back of the bus with our plastic cups trying to taste the flavours. I now have a good-sized collection. My favourite is a 1996 Barolo.”
