Bronze Medal (Red Blend $20+) - 2011 Royal Winter Fair

90 points - "Now entering prime, this is a fine effort in a tough vintage. It sports lovely raspberry fruit with fresh herbs, tobacco and a touch of smokiness. It is medium bodied but shows decent flesh and density for the vintage - a bit smoother and riper than many, with quite fine tannin. There is a sour edge on the finish, along with a graphite/mineral character. The length is excellent. Best 2013 to 2017".
- David Lawrason, WineAlign.com

"Deep ruby; cedar, meaty, oak nuance, graphite; well extracted blackcurrant flavour, juicy, lively acidity. Great expression for the vintage".
- Tony Aspler, The Wine Guy

"By no means was 08 an easy red wine vintage in Ontario, but Ann Sperling and her team have pulled off a minor miracle. I credit this to the biodynamic practices which are in place at Southbrook. This blend of 37% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot and 26% Franc possesses a deep cherry colour and a profile of plums, tobacco smoke, flowers, vanilla and pencil shavings. Medium body and elegantly styled, there are some noticeable tannins. Drink over the next 3 years".
- Evan Saviolidis, EvanWineSavvy.com

"A blend of 37% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot and 26% Cabernet Franc, this elegant wine features aromas of cassis, just-picked raspberries, with a hint of Christmas fruit cake in front of the fire. And it tastes just like it smells, with balanced tannins and acidity".

“I put out a challenge to Brian and Sam that we would each make our version of a red blend that included 2008 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. After each spending most of a day selecting our favourite barrels and creating our individual blend(s), we blind tasted each of them (I think we tasted 5 different blends). Even though we intended to choose one wine to be “the winner”, we actually decided to fine tune 2 of the wines we liked best and ultimately we all cooperated and produced this wine. The final blend came together on the full moon”. – Ann Sperling, Director of Winemaking & Viticulture at Southbrook
